Back in Lagos, but some sad news

It was great to see some progress on the house build, but it was now time to fulfill a couple of house-sit requests. We are now back in the Algarve. Specifically for two house sits, and both are for friends we have sat for before. The main difference is the time we plan to be in the Algarve for. It’s going to be for almost three months this time. However the weather is a bit warmer and sunnier than central areas around now, so it will be a little more comfortable all things considered.

the drive down was pleasant enough. We much prefer traveling on the toll-free roads, and indeed it is our plan to get an N2 passport from Faro when it’s time to leave and travel back up to our nearest km mark to where we are building and plan to do the northern route at a later date. That’s the plan anyhow.

So for the first sit, we are back at the sit near Lagos. This time we only have five of the six dogs as Bella went back to the UK, as she was having some health issues. There was some other sad news, in that the Villa will be going up for sale, so it might be our last visit here. But for the present we are enjoying being with the pooches again, and to break the routine, Waynés sister is due to come out to Portugal during our time here, and the owners were kind enough to offer her the upstairs room, so we are looking forward to her coming out (and mucking in 😉).

It was great to arrive and see the dogs reaction seeing us again. We had a good hand-over from the couple who were sitting until we arrived, and then we just settled in to our routine again. It was like we had never been away.

We did however receive some bad news during our first week. We heard from friends Heidi & Mike from our previous sit at Mouronho that little Tan had passed away. We were so sad to here that news. He did have a condition that some dogs here suffer with, and it had caught up with him in the end. We were just happy that we had been to have looked after him for our part and for him to have been a small chapter in our journey here in Portugal. RIP little Tan, you are sadly missed.

So, we arrived in mid January and the thing we first noticed was how quiet Lagos was.

The first week was about setting in again. Just doing the mundane shopping etc. We had a couple of more trips into Lagos just to see if anything had changed.

There were still many businesses closed and shops empty. There were still some holiday makers here, mostly German and Dutch judging from the languages were heard and number plates on show.

There had also been some more larger development since our last visit, with the most notable being a new shopping centre and KFC going up just fifteen minutes down the road. You just can’t seem to stop progress.

Our one outing, was to our nearest beach, Meia Praia. Considering we have spent many weeks here, we had never been to this beach or seen Lagos from this particular perspective. So one fine day off we popped. It was a sunny tho chilly morning although we soon had to remove coats and jumpers once we were on our way back after reaching Lagos. The beach was largely deserted so the walk was lovely. They are also in the process of constructing a wooden walkway which goes all the way from Lagos to Meia Praia and perhaps further. It’s going to be fabulous. It runs alongside the rail line for some way and will protect the beach and sand dunes from any erosion.

Looking forward to spending time with these five adorable dogs and exploring a bit more too.

If you got this far, thanks for reading our stories, and from us two (young at heart couple), see you next time. Make sure to go out and make the most of your day too, “Carpe Diem”.
