We are posting this just to let you all know that we are about to depart on a long needed break. (Stop laughing!). We never really got a long holiday last year, so we started looking for a place to go this year. At the back of our mind was the hope that work would start on the house, so we wanted to stay in Portugal, but planned to head to the Algarve and hit the beaches and really relax and chill this time.
We have always organised holidays around the kids and work in the past, so now that we have retired we decided to go for a longer holiday. So we eventually booked a four week break in Albufeira. It should still be fairly quiet and not too hot.
We have only been back here in Central Portugal for two weeks, so have been working through as many house related decisions as we could, such as flooring, bathroom tiles, bathroom fittings, and doors. There are still a lot of decisions to make, but the Algarve is still in reach in case we are needed for anything. We can deal with most things by engaging the Architect over Zoom.
And so, we suppose the big news is that the work has now well and truly begun. The services wall and entryway are half completed and the foundations work has begun. We do have some trees that need dealing with, but our friends in the village put us in touch with a guy who will take care of all that for us while we are away. It is good news, as by the time we get back it is unlikely we will be able to burn anything. He will do all the cutting, pruning and burning for us, so is a weight off our shoulders.
We seem to be in safe hands with all the house aspects here. We really enjoyed our house and pet sitting, so we are going to extend our stay down in the Algarve. We plan to sit for two other families who need someone to take care of their pets, but only after we have had our relaxation and exploration of Central Algarve. There is also a chance of seeing our previous newly befriended pooches! That would be great, as we miss them already! We have also agreed to sit for another couple over Christmas, but much closer to home. That one is near Coimbra, so easy to get back to see the house build progress.
So, thats just a brief update…
