New Year Lull…

Hi everyone! We hope you had a great New Years Celebration? If you read our previous post you can see ours was pretty quiet.

This is just a quick filler post really. It’s only been a couple of days, and everyone is still on their holidays and the shops are either shut or very quiet. The girls are busying themselves doing what most women do after Christmas and New Year… Tidying up! They are also continuing to get creative and have some craft projects on the go. Those, as well as working out food shopping now that all the goodies have been eaten. They are also continuing to attend local yoga classes, but are trying to amend the timings a bit.

Peter is due back soon, so at least Wayne will have male company again and someone who he can share meat with! The girls are veggie or vegan and Wayne is not, so it’s easier to plan meals if more than one carnivore is at the table. Unfortunately for Wayne, Peter is likely to jet off again, so its only a short visit.

There was some pleasant news however this week… Wayne’s close friend and former colleague was made an OBE (Order of the British Empire). Wayne was thrilled to hear this news and was pleased to pass on his heartfelt congratulations to his ol’ mate Nira Chamberlain. When he heard the news, his memory went straight back to a few years ago when he and Nira had worked together through the night on solving a crucial problem to a VERY tight deadline! Nira solved the maths of course, and Wayne did the data side… but we got the result! There are quite a few more stories and experiences Wayne could share about his time working with Nira! However, the appointment couldn’t go to a more deserving recipient! Well done Nira!

The other pleasant thing is the weather continues to be lovely. Sunny and warm. And on the Sunday after New Years Day, it seemed an ideal time for Wayne to get out and go for a hike up the local hills. The girls were engaged in their projects, so he headed off and the video below was the result.

What would have taken around an hour and a half, dragged on a bit longer, but only due to setting up and playing with the drone and doing some further tests since getting it back from the repair centre. There were a few things that didn’t go quite to plan, and some footage didn’t get recorded, so still some bits to get his head around. Wayne was surprised at how quickly the sitting back and eating the Christmas goodies had taken its toll. It is probably time to get some more hiking in!

We will be working on the first of our house build series soon, in which we want to cover our experience and the process we have gone through to get to where we are. There doesn’t seem to be much online about building from scratch in Portugal, and even less about building an eco friendly wood frame house. So we are looking forward to getting into that, and hopefully some people might find it interesting.

By for now folks!
