Build news and exploring Porto de Mos

Straight to the exciting news…

The architects have submitted the stuff they needed to.
For our self-build project they were required to submit documents including, things like a valid Workmen’s Compensation Insurance Policy, Declaration of ownership of the Class 1 licence, TORs, Construction Site Book with mention of the Term of Opening, Health and Safety Plan, etc.

That obviously took a while to get together, but they were all done at the same time at the building offices in Porto de Mos. As usual we were guided and helped all the way by our architects wife. We are now very much looking forward to working with their team in bringing the house to a reality, and finally settling into our own home again.

At the same time, we also settled the fees for the build permit and the taxes associated with the application. So now all that remains before we can get started is to wait for the building permit to be issued, the advisory boards to be made up, provide intention to start works and begin to detail the build and design finish specifics. Things like how we will manage power, heating, insulation, and rain harvesting. Also, what the kitchen will be like, what the flooring and wall/ceiling finishes will be like. All these and more along with their associated budgets as we only have a set amount to spend!! And due to our lightweight move over here, we need to furnish the house from scratch, as we left or sold everything we owned!

Scary or exciting? leave your thoughts…

The following day…

We were sat having a coffee and some pastries in our local town and we discussed how we hadn’t really seen all of the town since the Christmas decorations had gone up. It is quite a different vibe from the UK, with music being broadcast throughout the entire town, and random lights and decorations around every corner. We resolved to do just that and take some snaps as we explored. Unfortunately, I only had my phone, as we had not planned the walk before we set off for lunch.

We really enjoyed the walk and saw some really cool sights! Quite a few of the photos are ones Annette snapped. She has a real eye for the detail and nature!

We strolled through the streets, around the castle and up to an old mill. The name ‘Porto de Mos’ actually means ’Door of the Mill’ in english. Why not have a look at the video below to get a feel for Porto de Mos in December. It was actually very mild, and climbing the hills made it feel much warmer!

We hope you enjoy it. If you do, don’t forget to click the ’thumbs up’ button or subscribe and click the bell icon to be notified when new content goes up.

Once the house build starts, we intend to start a new numbered series of episodes to follow the entire process from start to finish, be sure to stop by to follow the journey.

Until next time, we hope everyone stays fit and healthy, but continues to enjoy life and stay positive in these challenging times.
