Welcome back!
Well, we had a few pleasant days with Annette’s sisters and caught up with our youngest son at the same time. Nothing really exciting to report. We managed to complete a few tasks such as getting MOT health checks and eating some unhealthy food.
We spent our final weekend down on the south coast in Portsmouth meeting up with Annette’s family. Wayne finally got to visit the Mine Warfare and Diving Monument which was erected in Gunwharf Quays. The monument was partially funded and promoted by the military association that Wayne belongs to: the Mine Warfare Association, for which he still runs and maintains the website.

We managed to sneak in an afternoon at the cinema to catch the latest James Bond film in between catching up with the family reunions too.
It didn’t all go to plan unfortunately…
We had planned and booked our journey to Gatwick Airport by train, as everyone traveling back after the visit were unable to offer a lift. Unfortunately, all the trains were cancelled or delayed. The previous night had been quite stormy and had created multiple incidents on the rail network. This meant we would probably miss our flight. Considering our besties had dropped our car off at Lisbon airport, we really didn’t want to miss the flight, so we had to bite the bullet and pay £150 for a taxi. A very bitter pill to swallow! Never the less, it did get us to the airport in plenty of time to relax and get a bite to eat before catching the flight which was on time. On our return, things went perfectly! We were one of the first off the plane, our checked in bag arrived as soon as we reached the carousel, we went straight through passport control with no queuing and found the car right away. We stopped for a quick snack on the way home, and the journey was smooth and easy, so good to be back on un-congested roads again and driving ‘Molly’ our Audi A5.
The weather forecast was for a few days of well needed rain, and it was obvious when we woke next morning that there had been some considerable rain in previous days. The river was definitely flowing. The weather was warm and the rain had stopped, so we ventured out to see if the ‘Fornea’ (a local waterfall that only flows after rainfall) was running. Its a lovely walk, and not very far from us, and the sun started to make a welcome appearance too. We even ventured up to the cave in the cliff which is where the water that supplies the waterfall and river system originates from. Its quite the climb and was welcome exercise after being mostly sedate in the Uk and the previous month due to Wayne’s vertigo.
The other good news is that Wayne’s Portuguese driving license had finally arrived.
So here we are, back in Portugal with our besties. There is still Wayne’s vertigo to try and get sorted (tests are this week), and to catch up where the house build project is.
