There has been quite a lot happen since our last update and the reason for the delay in putting this blog up is in the title and will become clear at the end.
Firstly, we had a new visitor. Peter´s brother, Vince, came to visit for a week and while we left them to catch up during the days, we were sorting out the car and doing some shopping etc. It was hot weather and plenty of time for drinks by the pool were had by all!
It was great to see Vince looking well and in great humour too. It was one of his goals during his visit, to walk from home to Nazeré. This was to happen on the day the car was due in to have a sensor replaced. (yes, they eventually located the issued that was causing the faults!). So, a plan was hatched… Vince and the girls set off on their long walk (around 40k) very early, while Peter followed me to the garage, leave the car for the day, and then head up to Nazeré to wait for the weary pilgrims to arrive. We had plenty of time to walk around but eventually settled in the Irish pub to await their arrival. (well why wouldn´t you?). The girls and Vince eventually arrived, weary and tired, thirsty and hungry, so we all headed for old Nazeré town and a well earned indian meal. An amazing achievement and buoyed by their accomplishment will no doubt be planning for a future adventure soon!
The week passed far to quickly and it was time for Vince to return to the UK, but this time accompanied by Pete & Veronica, so we loaded the car and drove them to the airport. We were going to be on our own for a couple of weeks and we hadn’t been to Lisboa for a while so decided to check out the aquarium while we were there. We weren’t disappointed either!
The next couple of days were fairly quiet, we just stocked up on some essentials and enjoyed a bit of rain too! This is when Wayne started feeling unwell and a bit out of sorts.
Our worldly belongings arrived from the removals company, but because Wayne was feeling ill, the boxes were just moved into the kitchen and Netty started to move the lightest ones up to our room. The following day started more promising, and Wayne’s symptoms appeared to have subsided. We managed to get the remaining boxes away and decided to pay a visit to Torres Novas and while there to pick up some medicine from the farmacia in case Wayne’s dizziness re-appeared. Initially, we thought it could be due to ear wax, so bought some drops for that and unfortunately it didn’t seem to work, as the vertigo returned that night and has remained since.
We managed to get in to the local clinic who prescribed some pills to address the symptoms but they didn’t seem to work that well. Fast forward a couple of days and a call to Sandy (Our architect’s wife) for help was swiftly answered and she managed to arrange an appointment at a hospital with an ENT specialist. Sandy was absolutely amazing and managed to get Wayne through all the admin and did all the translation etc, she really was an angel. So the outcome was that Wayne was given a shot to help with the sickness, and he returns this week for a head scan to see if they can diagnose the cause of the vertigo!
One thing I forgot to mention, was that before all this started and before Portugal went into its holiday season, Rui manage to get some more 3D renders of our house plans. Wayne managed to get out to the land and take some photographs of where those virtual images would be and merged the two…
Now all we need are a few things: Wayne’s vertigo to get sorted, the planning phase for the house to end and the construction phase to start!
Thanks for stopping by.
